Welcome to Rocky Creek in Triassic Forest!

Meet Miggy, her little brother,Toad,
and her good friend, Stone.

The rest of the gang in Rocky Creek:
Woolly, Twig, Willow, and Crow.

About the Rocky Creek Kids:

Dinosaurs *disappeared* from the earth
65 million years ago.

People *appeared* on the earth
only about 2 million years ago.

As you can see, dinosaurs and humans
never lived at the same time.

The story about Miggy and Stone and their friends
is fantasy.
It's "imagined historical fiction."

The Rocky Creek Kids' story answers the question "What if?"

What if people and dinosaurs
HAD lived at the same time?

What if their lives were more similar to ours
than we ever imagined?

What if?

Miggy's family lives in a cave near Rocky Creek.  An apple tree sits near the fire pit and that is where you'll find Bird, her pet pterodactyl.   Miggy's mom makes baskets and her father makes tools and weapons for hunting.

Toad is Miggy's baby brother.  Miggy has to help her mom keep an eye on him because he can zip off faster than a baby rabbit.  He doesn't do much else except draw on the walls of the cave.

Stone is Miggy's oldest friend.  He and Miggy have fun exploring Rocky Creek.  In the summers, Stone and his family move to a colder climate to hunt game.  In the fall, they always return to Rocky Creek and the Clan.

Woolly is the strongest and fastest of the group.  If only his courage was as strong and fast as he is!  His father, Old Tanner, makes musical instruments.  Woolly knows how to play them all.

Twig is a daredevil.  She is the first one to lead when the group is in scary territory.  Plus, she has the best shriek Miggy has ever heard.  A superb shriek.  It's the best warning in the forest that trouble lies ahead.

Willow and Crow are brother and sister.  Their father is Mayor Magnon.  Willow is the fashionista of the group.  Crow is very shy and always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  But he also tells the best jokes.

A Sample of Crow's Jokes:

Q.   Do you know how long dinosaurs should be fed?
A.   The same amount of time as short dinosaurs.

Q.   What is a frog's favorite flower?
A.   A croakus.

Q.   What do you call a fish with no eyes?
A.   A fsh.

Q.  Where does a triceratops sit?
A.   On its tricera-bottom.

   Measuring Time in the Past:

Miggy and the gang live in the Triassic Period.
How long ago was that?

Well, today, we live in the Cenozoic Era.
It began 70 million years ago.

Before that was the Mesozoic Era,
which began 225 million years ago.

The Triassic Period fell at the
*beginning* of the Mesozoic Era.

A long, long time ago!

Here is a brief video showing the timeline of history:

Types of Dinosaurs:

Triceratops

About 500 different species of dinosaurs have been found.  There were probably more, but haven't been discovered yet.  Some may never be found!

Velociraptor
Diplodocus
Steogsaurus
Tyrannosaurus
Iguanodon
Brachiosaurus

Facts about Prehistoric Humans:

They were very social and lived in groups,
like Miggy's Clan.
They ate a variety of plant foods and small animals.
They made goods and traded them.
When the climate changed
and plants or animals were scarce,
early humans moved to follow their food source.
